Concise Writing

Writing concisely is one of the hardest things for me while I´m writing an essay. Concise writing consists of using no more words than necessary to convey meaning.

Some other aspects are also necessary.

- Clarity: the sentence must be easy to the reader;

- Well-chosen vocabulary;

- Strong verbs: instead of using sentences like 'he made some questions", we must use 'he asked';

- Proper length: not too long sentences or the reader will be confused, but also not too choppy sentences;

- A limited number of clauses and prepositions (my weakness);

- Subject-verb agreement;

- Correct verb tense;

- Avoid redundancy;

- Avoid vague words;

- Remove unnecessary modifiers.
